Ruhr-Sieg-Radweg

Cycling where the trains of the industrial age once rattled: On 113 kilometers with little incline, the Ruhr-Sieg Cycle Path leads through a hilly region full of natural experiences and follows former railroad tracks over long stretches. One of the many highlights: the view over the mighty Biggesee, a popular vacation paradise and, as one of Germany's largest dams, still important today for the water supply of the Ruhr region. Another worthwhile stop is the excellently preserved Wendener Hütte, whose charcoal technology is a precursor of the later coke blast furnaces on the Ruhr. Real railroad feeling comes when you go underground: in the Fledermaustunnel between Eslohe and Finnentrop and in the Hohenhainer Tunnel near Freudenberg.

The "Steel Time Travelers" Luise & Alfred: Ruhr-Sieg-Radweg

Lu:

We cycle from Kirchen to Meschede, once across the land of a thousand mountains? Alfred, you can put that out of your mind! A thing of the impossibility.

Lu: We cycle from Kirchen to Meschede, once across the land of a thousand mountains? Alfred, you can put that out of your mind! A thing of the impossibility.

Al: Not true! It is the land of a thousand valleys. The rivers and streams have dug themselves into the depths. And this is precisely the trick of the tour ...

Lu: Pinch me! You really mean it. My backside hurts already!

Al: Werteste! The route runs through the valleys, almost no mountain. And if someone blocks the way, there are tunnels. Home of fluttering animals - witches and druids are there, by the way!

Lu: I shudder. I thought we were looking at hut, hammer and ornate trusses - clattering mills by rushing streams?

Al: Sure thing. Rushing and clear! Along the way, there's all sorts of potential for railroad tracks and reservoirs of all sizes.

Lu: First scary stories, and now future spinning. You've got nothing but nonsense in your head, Al!

Al: Saddle up the chickens, Luise. Your cackling will pass you by.
