In 1881 Gustav Selve (1842-1909) took over the brass rolling mill built up by his father Hermann Diedrich Selve and Karl Basse. He developed the company into an enterprise of European dimensions, which in World War 1 manufactured aircraft and motor vehicle engines, among other things. Later the company was part of the ThyssenKrupp Group for a number of years.
