According to the letterhead, Westfälische Kupfer- und Messingwerke was founded in 1836 by Caspar Noell in Lüdenscheid-Vogelberg as a factory for the production of metal sheets for the Lüdenscheid button industry. Later, rolling, wire, brass and other plants were added, also outside Lüdenscheid.
